Awards and Affiliations:
Nellie Kress has won awards from the Watercolor Art Society-Houston, University of Houston Cinco Ranch, and various Lone Star Art League Shows. In March 2002, Nellie’s work was featured with 11 other artists at the Watercolor Arts Society-Houston (WAS-H) and in July 2002 she was featured with 2 other artists at Betz Gallery in Houston. In June, 2006 she had a one woman show at Morton Street Gallery in Richmond, TX.
Nellie’s paintings have been published in the August 2003, August 2004, & April 2005 editions of Watercolor Magic, a national publication. She was featured in an article in the June 2006 issue of North Light Book Club Magazine as “Artist of the Issue.”
Nellie has had paintings accepted in the Houston International Watercolor Show in 2003, 2004, 2005, & 2006 which gives her signature status in the Watercolor Art Society–Houston. She is also a signature member of the Texas Watercolor Society.
Other recent awards include first and second place in semi-professional watercolor at the Lone Star Art Guild 2003 Convention, the Olive Waddell Memorial Award for Best Floral at the fall 2003 show for the Art League of Ft. Bend, and Best Watercolor/Acrylic at the Sugar Land Area Artists winter show 2004. Also she received “Best of Show” at the Cinco Ranch Area Art League Spring Show in April 2005 & “Best Watercolor/Acrylic” at the Brenham Fine Arts League Show, spring 2005 and first place at the Student/Teacher Show in the teacher category at the Watercolor Art Society Houston.
In the fall of 2005, one of Nellie’s paintings won a “Juror’s Choice Award” at the WAS-H Annual Membership Show. Also in the fall of 2005, Nellie had a painting was accepted into the Gulf Coast National Exhibition at the Texas Artist Museum In Port Arthur and another accepted into National Watercolor Oklahoma. In the spring of 2006, two of her paintings were accepted in a watercolor show at the Stark Gallery at Texas A & M University. Two of Nellie's paintings were selected for a show at the Texas Towers in August & September of 2006.
